Whimsy Farm
Whimsy Farm sits on two and half acres in the River Raisin Watershed in SE Michigan. It brushes against the Saline River, the most crooked river in the state. The farm is the home of writer, teacher, and permaculturist Carolyn Crane and her two German Shepherds, Bonnie and Hayduke. Please enjoy the photographs and commentary of our journey to rewild the land, create a thriving habitat for wildlife, and cultivate a food forest to help feed our community.
Land Acknowledgement
We humbly acknowledge that we work and live on the sacred land of the Anishanaabe people. The taking of this land was formalized in a process alien to native cultures by the treaty of Detroit in 1807 including the Ottawa, the Ojibwa, the Potawatomi, and with the Wyandot. Many other native peoples lived on this land at different times including the Fox, the Sauk ,the Shawnee, the Kickapoo, the Miami, the Musketoon, and the Cherokee.
We offer our gratitude for their care of the earth and their teachings. We strive to steward this land, working daily to restore its health and native habitat. We revere its existence.
Acknowledgement by itself is a small gesture but let this step be an opening to greater consciousness of native history, sovereignty, and cultural rights and a step toward equitable relationship and reconciliation.
